The Health & Human Services Dept. recently compiled a study on the link between industrial chemicals and developmental health problems, but the Trump Administration decided to block its release for fear of public outcry. An Office of Management & Budget email detailing potential fallout was released to the Union of Concerned Scientists under the Freedom of Information Act earlier this month, though the report remains under wraps. The White House’s secrecy is getting 97 percent negative opinions online, with many on social media outraged at suppression of the study and many more worried about what the unreleased study contains. The findings surround chemicals called per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, found in nonstick coatings and firefighting foam. PFAS are being phased out, but they linger in the environment and could be linked to thyroid conditions and weakened immune systems, according to The Washington Post. –Hugo Guzman
