100 Words on Love, by Jamie Utt

If thereâs anything I know about love, itâs this: love is an act of will that’s at once endlessly selfless and powerfully selfish.
Love is an act of will, a choice that I must make in every moment to extend myself for my own well-being and the well-being of others.
Will.
Endlessly selfless: always working to meet the needs of those I love before my own. Powerfully selfish: always prioritizing the self care and self love that enables me to love outwardly.
Knowing is one thing. Practice is a different matter entirely.

I totally agree with this. I was talking with some friends at an intimate house concert (yes you read that right) and said basically the same thing in regards to people that are very damaged and that need lots of love, you can’t let them take advantage of you or hurt you. That’s not an unloving thing to do, because you can’t love anyone if you aren’t loving yourself, and by letting someone hurt you, you’re not loving yourself. Love is so simple.
