Gilberto Rosas on how to start improving yourself, one workout at a time.
___
1. First of all, training literally changes your brain…
2. Focus becomes your friend
3. You’re able to better deal with pain
It’s all in your mind. You ever notice when you get a papercut that although it’s such a small cut, it can actually be more painful the more you focus on it. But if you can learn to divert that focus somewhere else, you can barely feel anything. There is no doubting that lifting weights will cause you physical pain especially if you’re doing the dreaded leg day which engages your biggest muscles in an intense motion where the more reps you do, the heavier it gets and the more painful it gets!
Here’s an excellent tip that I’ve begun to implement: focus on your breathing. You can probably guess where I got this from: meditation of course. It’s a mental trick that works. The next time you find yourself on those last painful reps on the leg extensions or any exercise. Focus fully on your breath, and you’ll become zoned in!
4. You start to believe in yourself
5. A happier and more energized you
You’re stepping out of the gym and you feel absolutely amazing. You had a great a workout and you’re just feeling good but you don’t know why. At that moment, your brain is signaling the release of endorphins into your body which is basically a cocktail of goodness flowing into your whole body! Ever done morning cardio? You feel absolutely amazing after a morning run and the grogginess from getting up early is gone!
In fact, Hal Elrod, the author of The Miracle Morning highly recommends exercise as a vital part of a morning routine even if it’s just 5 minutes, as long as you get that body moving. It puts you in an excellent state to tackle the day ahead of you. Essentially you won’t be wishing for a great day because you will have already had a great start.
I am a firm believer that any change you make to any area of your life will permeate to all other areas. Improve your body, and now you are more focused on your work. You improve your finances, and now you have more freedom to work on your physique. Work on your relationships, and now you are not distracted but rather fully present in what needs to be done.
Change your body and you not only change your mind, but your life!
