Once we got on the road, there was just one problem – well, ten problems. Anaya had to stop and go to the bathroom ten times. But we made the most of it and made it up there after 12 hours of driving. We got to our destination in the Chocolate Babies, giving a full tour of our Airbnb. It’s actually a pretty dope place. If you have not tried it, I would recommend staying at the Triangle House in Grass Valley. Also, Yvette almost burned down the house and the kids saw deer for the first time. Now we’re headed for a hike, and attitudes are not in the right place, you guys.
Okay, so you’ve got a whole bag of snacks. You’re not taking your skates. Put your skates back. What are you doing? I told you we’re not gonna be on, we’re gonna hike. We’re not stopping so you can get your rollerblade on. This ain’t Venice Beach.
[Music]
So, it’s morning time. We’re about to go on this little hike. I told the kids we were going on a hike. Theo is just trying to live his Mighty Ducks life. He’s trying to get back out there and be on rollerblades as much as possible. I told him he wasn’t going to be able to do that. It’s just not gonna happen, so he could be upset. I don’t care, but I just know this is about being outside, getting fresh air, and having Mom getting her thing on, you know how she likes to be outside.
[Music]
Are there gonna be animals? Yes, there are going to be animals.
[Music]
Raccoons, I’m cute.
Yeah, so instead of you not letting me come or you’re not coming, why not just change your attitude and say, “I do want to go on a hike,” because that’s your only option.
I don’t know. Okay, well, you can do it.
It’s a good attitude. You can do it with a bad attitude, but you’re gonna do it. Of course, you can, buddy, right? Get out of the car. Thank you. Step over here, Jordan.
Oh.
What do you owe me for?
What are you owing me for?
You’re lazy.
Bro, you just sat down this whole time.
Put your stuff on. How you got crumbs all over here?
[Music]
Now you’re gonna put this on too because it’s cold.
I really don’t want to go.
Okay, that’s enough. Hey!
[Music]
All right, let’s go. Everybody walk.
Okay, go. Oh, me too.
Oh, you found a little bit of snow. Don’t you dare. Don’t you dare. That’s not fair.
Hit Dad’s backpack.
Hey, Dad.
In the butt.
Why’d you guys hit me?
Tonight’s package.
You’re not hitting people with snow. That’s just ice. It’s gonna hurt.
Now just remember—
Oh, this is what you get for making me—
You bet has dreams to discover a lot of this world. That’s because she wasn’t allowed to do a lot of this as a child. They didn’t do a lot of exploring, going outside, getting lost, and running in the woods. I did a lot of that, so I’m kind of over it, you know what I mean? But Yvette, when she comes out here, she’s trying to go to her limit. So, if there’s a five-mile hike, she wants to go all five miles. And we didn’t succeed if we didn’t go all five miles. It’s about the journey, so let’s just enjoy the journey. So, I’m glad that Yvette has turned the expectations way down, and we’re able to just do this, get all these calories burned, get these kids tired, so we can get some quiet later on.
Okay.
We have to go, one, two, three.
Yeah.
One, two, three.
Minutes. This looks like Pac-Man.
Feel, it’s eating me. It’s eating me.
For you. Watch out.
No, seriously though, help me.
[Laughter]
Oh my God, these children always complain when I say let’s go for a hike, but then when we get out here, they have a fun time. Mom knows best.
That’s how far we’ve walked, and already, I’m ready to go back home, but I’m gonna keep moving. It’s been 0.2 miles. That’s it, that’s how far we’ve gone, and all that has happened. Ryan went from wanting to rest on me to crying almost.
Alright, full-on snowball.
This is how far they dug to find gold. Oh wait, there’s gold here. There used to be, I don’t know if there’s any more left. That’s the point. Oh come on, people.
Are you looking for gold right now?
Yes.
Okay, listen, in order to find gold, you have to go panning. Remember I told you about panning? We don’t have the utensils to pan right now, so the likelihood of you finding gold right now is probably like 10 million to one. It’s not gonna be gold just sitting out here unless someone dropped a ring or something.
Wait, Dad, look.
Yeah, I see that. That’s not gold, buddy.
Anaya, Uzi, I can’t see you.
Oh, what?
Oh my goodness, when I ask you to do something, you listen the first time, you understand? Okay, I’m tired of having to call your name more than once. Okay, yes, thank you.
See, I’m at the stage in parenting right now where some kids have to learn the hard way. They have to learn that when I tell them not to do something, don’t do it.
‘Cause I’m about to step in.
One, this whole food.
That’s what you get. The thing is though, whatever he does, they try to do.
Uzi, I don’t want you going down there.
Okay, go ahead then, fine.
Go.
Yeah, everybody go ahead and go, yeah.
Sometimes, it’s actually an adventure. They just do whatever, whatever they want.
We made it half a mile along this trail. Always say that as we keep doing things like this, stopping to skip rocks, throw sticks, anything, pick up ice, do all the things. It’s lovely, it’s what I want as a mother. Your children to enjoy and explore nature. However, we did not get to experience the whole trail, just half a mile. And now I have agreed to turn around and leave. But as we turn around, they are still frolicking and having a good old time. I, at this point, am hungry and I have to use the restroom.
Let’s go, let’s go eat, crazy guys. He’s crazy. Don’t squeeze me, ’cause I gotta pee.
That’s so rude. You’re a man that you can whip out and go pee. I do not. Come on, come on.
How’d you see me?
That’s actually a really good. Let’s just go explore, yeah.
Foreign.
You may have heard about Walk for Earth Day. It’s a huge event, but it’s not
