I know we come in many different colors, shapes, sizes, religions, and many other dividers. There is one area I think we can all agree and that is no woman deserves to be a victim of abuse or assault.
Not a single one of us. Ever.
I live in Polk County, Florida. We have a rather infamous county Sheriff here, he’s quite outspoken. However, despite the many political points I don’t agree with him on, Grady Judd doesn’t play about women and children. Do not come here and hurt either one, or your ass is grass buddy.
Here in my county, the Sheriff’s Department offers a free Womens Self Defense class monthly. It is open to young ladies 13 and older, all the way to age 99 if you still feel comfortable beating on BOB.
The class teaches you, in a hands-on manner, how to defend yourself against someone attempting to assault you, or worse. They also teach you the basics in being aware of your surroundings and avoiding dangerous situations that have the potential to turn violent.
So, basically, what I’m out here preaching in this column every day.
They’re doing a great thing, at no charge, for the women in my community. That’s exceptional. A quick internet search returns hundreds of other agencies doing exactly the same all the way across the U.S.
Please, Google it. Find out which agency in your area is offering this class and sign up. It literally costs nothing but two hours of your time. That is it. You don’t need equipment, or special clothing, none of that. But it could save your life one day.
I urge you, any lady who comes across this column, please sign up. Go take the class. Here, it’s 6 to 8 on a Tuesday. I can’t think of anything hopping at 6 on a Tuesday night. This will give you something constructive to do, and you can probably skip the treadmill too. Win-Win-Win situation.
Your safety matters to me. It should matter to you also. Nobody is going to protect you like you would protect you (unless it’s a really great dog), so just do this one thing for yourself. You won’t regret it.
