How Your Partner Can Use Chat GPT to Cheat

There are countless ways people can cheat if they want to, especially by using apps. Now, they could also use ChatGPT.

The ChatGPT app obviously isn’t designed for use in this manner. However, as of right now, it can be easy for someone to speak to others behind their partner’s back without them finding out.

Using the Group Chat Feature in ChatGPT

You can start a group chat in the app by clicking the person icon at the top right and inviting one or more people to it by sending a link.

Once started, it’s separate from the one-on-one chats you have with ChatGPT. You can click on the two horizontal lines in the upper-left corner of the app to open the menu and find the “Group chats” section above “Your chats.”

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. You can converse with anyone you invite into the group chat, and ChatGPT won’t necessarily interject.

I brought a friend in to see how it worked. She and I could speak to each other without ChatGPT chiming in. However, when one of us specifically addressed it, such as starting the question with “ChatGPT,” it would respond.

Deleted Chats in ChatGPT

I asked ChatGPT, “If I start a group chat in this ChatGPT app and I delete it, is there a way to recover it, or is it gone forever?”

Its response: “If you delete a group chat in the ChatGPT app, it’s permanently removed from your chat history and can’t be recovered. There isn’t a built-in way to restore deleted chats.”

This means, in the app’s current design, someone could completely wipe out a private conversation they had with another person through the ChatGPT app. It won’t show up in their chat list or elsewhere in the app.

I deleted the group chat I set up with my friend to find out what would happen to our conversation on her end. The chat disappeared entirely from her ChatGPT app as well.

How Can Someone Use It to Cheat?

Your partner could show you they blocked someone on their phone, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc., but still be able to talk via ChatGPT . They could invite someone into a group chat, converse with them or quickly decide on a meet-up point, then close it out. If they delete the conversation, you won’t be able to find it on their phone. However, they would also need to delete the link invite message they sent.

Many people use the ChatGPT app for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with cheating. No one would think twice about seeing it on their partner’s phone.

Like many other apps, ChatGPT can be misused in ways it wasn’t designed for. Understanding that risk is essential in an age where digital secrecy is easier than ever. While it’s technically possible for private conversations to go unnoticed, the best course of action is open communication and trust with your partner.
