Kid at Heart

Cartoons. When I was growing up my schedule revolved around them. Saturday mornings I looked forward to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and during the week I’d hurry home from school for Disney afternoons. My favorite movies featured Care Bears and I dreamed of being She-Ra.

Eventually I grew older and watched cartoons less and less. I got married and learned that my husband? Well, turns out he didn’t outgrow cartoons.

I know there are a lot of adults who enjoy cartoons and there are now plenty of cartoons geared to adults as well. Yep, he watches those too.

I’m pretty sure my husband’s favorite part of being a dad is that he has two little excuses to sit around and watch cartoons. Our kids make a good cover for his love of all things animated. Snuggling up on the couch marathoning their newest series is a great way for him to bond with them as well.

In recent years there have been remakes of some of his childhood favorites and he has discovered new ones with our kids too. They anticipate new seasons and discuss the characters. They love guessing what’s going to happen next and seeing who is right with their guesses.

Our kids are growing up and one day, like me they may lose interest in cartoons as well. My husband will continue to watch his cartoons and maybe one he can pass his love of cartoons down to grand-kids as well.
