so listen so last year when we were
0:02
going away from your recital i had a
0:04
conversation with you guys in a car and
0:06
i said that you guys have to learn how
0:08
to swim
0:09
and anaya was very upset she said she
0:11
did not want to learn how to swim isn’t
0:12
that right
0:14
but you did learn how to swim
0:16
and i said
0:18
if you learn how to swim
0:20
then you all get to go to
0:23
hawaii hawaii
0:25
so on thursday we are going to hawaii
0:36
[Music]
0:40
to keep it real it starts where your
0:42
family
0:44
[Music]
0:50
welcome black my name is belief and
0:52
you’re watching belief in fatherhood
0:53
where we equip fathers gives hope to
0:55
mothers and inspired children
0:57
today i have a beautiful story
0:59
about my intention last year we took a
1:02
trip to hawaii just my wife and i went
1:04
to the beautiful island maui and we
1:06
experienced
1:08
an amazing place and it was great
1:11
because we got to experience the culture
1:12
and we got to have time with friends and
1:14
just do a lot of fun stuff
1:16
and i wanted to bring the kids to maui
1:19
this year this episode is just part one
1:22
of like our three-part series about what
1:25
it’s like traveling as a family of six i
1:27
think a lot of people glorify traveling
1:30
as a family
1:31
and they make it look so easy and it was
1:33
not that way for us
1:35
uh and so here’s part one but make sure
1:38
you stick around for the rest of the
1:39
series there is a couple lessons to
1:41
learn here
1:43
and i want to make sure you stick around
1:44
for all three videos but anyway welcome
1:47
black all right so right now it’s about
1:49
4 30 a.m
1:51
we are about to wake the kids up and get
1:54
them ready to go and
1:56
drive to the airport
1:58
hop on the airplane
1:59
go to hawaii
2:01
i’m off for two hours of sleep i think
2:02
he bet had three hours of sleep
2:05
yeah here we go
2:06
we’ve been preparing for this for a
2:08
while yvette has everybody packed and
2:10
we’re pretty much good to go our
2:12
intention is to have the greatest family
2:14
moments ever but this is a story about
2:17
expectation versus reality
2:27
[Music]
2:31
lily come on let’s go outside
2:37
traveling as a family of six is all
2:39
about endurance it’s about picking your
2:41
battles and letting things slide and
2:43
also keeping everyone safe
2:49
sometimes you run short on patience
2:51
but just imagine how the kids feel
2:53
i mean ryan said it best here
2:56
it is
2:58
not cool that i have to wake up this
3:00
early
3:02
this
3:06
overall our kids are pretty amazing
3:09
they’re patient they understand how to
3:11
communicate their feelings and they’re
3:14
pretty much good to each other we don’t
3:15
travel often but when we do travel it’s
3:17
pretty extensive it’s either a long road
3:19
trip or a flight to a different coast
3:22
i didn’t even feel like i had enough
3:24
sleep
3:28
what did she shoot
3:29
okay
3:35
the kids usually adjust well once we get
3:38
to where we’re going but it’s the little
3:40
things that make the big difference
3:42
like normal fast food restaurants will
3:44
eat
3:45
there’s no in and out in hawaii and i
3:48
suspect the children are gonna want that
3:49
the kids have small preferences like
3:52
type of oatmeal or kind of chips they
3:55
like
3:56
when we were kids we didn’t really
3:57
travel that much and if we did we just
4:00
ate what was available we can’t go
4:03
without anaya’s
4:05
favorite chips
4:07
so but because we know the little things
4:10
make the big difference yvette packs all
4:12
their favorite snacks so that we don’t
4:13
have to have that type of conversation
4:16
when we ask them to do something major
4:19
mario
4:22
let me see if it should be done now
4:24
so here’s
4:26
mrs steele’s you don’t know you have a
4:28
mario kart game
4:30
all right and ryan you have the uh
4:32
avenger game on there
4:33
so you don’t have to wait for your
4:34
brother to play
4:36
just from the label yeah and you’re
4:37
right you have the avengers
4:54
that card anymore you’re right dad
4:58
i’m usually in charge of entertainment i
5:00
make sure to download all the movies on
5:02
the ipads
5:03
make sure that their battery packs are
5:05
charged and making sure they have video
5:07
games some people are anti-screen but
5:10
for the older ones i say go ahead and
5:12
screen them out and the reason why is
5:14
because i have to save my energy for the
5:17
younger ones when we went on this trip
5:19
we still had the mass mandate so i know
5:21
that the kids are going to be a little
5:22
irritated with having their mask on for
5:24
the entire flight also with the youngest
5:26
one he’s more of a wild card so we don’t
5:28
know what he’s going to do or what he’s
5:29
going to be thinking while on the flight
5:34
do i need
5:44
you know what guys everybody’s gonna
5:46
brush their teeth i already did oh and i
5:49
didn’t
5:50
know
5:53
[Music]
6:02
right
6:12
i’m still missing
6:14
i have a jacket lily’s like where are we
6:16
going
6:17
we aren’t going anywhere you’re staying
6:19
here
6:21
i’ll stop ringing please
6:29
sit
6:31
stay
6:44
[Music]
6:46
here we go
6:55
are you ready
7:14
my bag is not in here is it
7:19
somewhere apart
7:22
so far
7:24
i think
7:41
wait that was raya
7:47
why didn’t you care as much about
7:49
spreading your farts around as you did
7:51
about the smell earlier yeah
7:58
because i’ve been waiting
8:00
for it
8:01
to fart for like one hour
8:08
can you grab us some masks
8:11
travel all the destination i bring my
8:12
shade to the point like exclamation you
8:14
see my wife and kids and i’m adjacent i
8:17
told y’all family is foundation although
8:19
it’s true i know i need a lot of
8:20
patience i pay attention turned off my
8:22
notifications i used last year’s trip as
8:24
motivation i thought i was going to get
8:27
some meditation i needed to feel like
8:29
medication i learned the hard way this
8:31
is not a vacation but still i gave
8:33
myself permission while i try optimistic
8:37
we are a fam on the
