As horrible as it is the attack this week of four British teenagers and the tragic death of one, in Norway brings to mind that when dealing with wild animals it serves us as human beings well to remember that they are indeed wild:
Great White Sharks really prefer seals. They will spit us out once they bite. Lions will generally only attack if provoked or seriously hungry. Same with Grizzly Bears. But Polar Bears live in the sparse Arctic tundra track and attack pretty much any living thing to survive, including humans.
The best defense is to stay the hell away from polar bear territory. But with global warming, human territory and polar bear territory are increasingly overlapping.
What to do? Remember that in the words of Chris Rock, Polar Bears are not crazy. They are Polar Bears.

David – you just made my day! awesome video 🙂
Sometimes, though, a polar bear doesn’t behave like a polar bear.
