With fierce intensity these wasps emerge from their dark vespid lair.

The rotten branch of this Alder provides for life long after its own death.
So one by one, they crawl to the light to stretch and absorb the radiant heat of the day.
The ancient hunters eyes beginning to engage with their surroundings as they probe for the unwary that will soon become their prey.
A low buzzing swells in volume as if in prelude for the wild hunt of this tiger of the insect world.
Then, when the moment is right they take to the air and veer off into this ecology in the magnificence of their own evolution.
They too are stocking up for the leaner times ahead.
