Let’s be honest: Everyone has someone that they miss. The feeling of missing someone is real. It’s like an old song which used to be your favorite but you haven’t listened to for years because you know every note hurts your heart.
So who is that person?
That one person who comes to mind first, almost effortlessly. For some, it’s an old lover with whom they imagined their life and planned it. For others, it’s an old friend who vanished with time without a trace, like they never quite belonged to you but left a mark anyway.
The tragedy of missing someone is that it has a mind of its own. You can’t choose who would appear in your mind; they just appear automatically.
Memory Lane (A Path We All Walk)
Nostalgia has no manners; it doesn’t ask if you’re busy, happy, or perfectly content.
One moment, you’re focused on your task, and suddenly, boom, you’re back sitting next to your lover, holding hands and discussing the future together.
Memories somehow never cared about the timing; they just appear whenever you’re not ready.
And yet we take them gracefully. Missing someone doesn’t guarantee sadness; it’s just a reminder that you loved somebody whole-heartedly, you had a good time, you had a happy moment, or a version of yourself you still hold close.
Why We Miss People (Even If We Shouldn’t)
Here’s the thing — our minds don’t exactly take “delete” commands when it comes to people. Instead, it just tucks away those memories until they decide to bubble up.
And come to think of it, we may not even miss the person. Often, it’s who we were with them, or the way they made the world seem a little more interesting, even a little more alive.
Embracing the Feeling
Missing someone? Lean in. Really. There’s something about letting yourself feel it all that’s almost… freeing. Whether it’s someone you know you’ll see again or someone who’s left for good, missing is a part of life’s wild ride. You don’t have to push it away or make sense of it. Just let it be.
Missing people is a funny thing — painful, sometimes unnecessary, but also beautiful in its own way. And write I must: if missing them is all you have left, hold it close. Let it breathe, and see where it takes you.
