A fiery and unforgettable television personality is Congresswoman Maxine Waters, a Democrat from California who expressed recently that her greatest desire is to lead President Donald Trump to impeachment. Her full-time job, of course, is politics not punditry, yet the casual cable news viewer might know her more for viral video clips rather than meaningful and memorable legislation. Her age and assertiveness is reminiscence of the lovable but strict neighborhood churchgoer, or school principal, who everyone feels comfortable calling grandmother, but who no one would want to challenge or disappoint.
But for all the things to be said about Mrs. Waters, it’s not her personality at the moment that’s stealing the show but rather her words and actions: the California Congresswoman is quickly becoming the face of a non-pseudo, unapologetic and solo resistance to the U.S. President, and she’s doing it in a way that’s polarizing – polarizing in the sense that’ll make it harder for politicians to straddle to fence in their views on the occupants of the White House – and that doesn’t normalize the abnormal. The White House characterized Congresswoman Waters’ agenda and speech as extreme, and observers have commented that it’s unusual for a lawmaker to talk impeachment less than thirty days into someone’s presidency. Congresswoman Waters, however, suggested it’s the president, not her, that’s unusual.
“This is a president, in a two week period of time, who has acted in an abnormal way,” the Congresswoman said Monday on a CNN program where she was invited on to defend her anti-Trump agenda.
Among the impeachable offenses enumerated by the Congresswoman is the perceived moral equivalency President Trump made over the weekend between Putin, who Fox News’ Mr. Bill O’Rielly called a “killer,” and the American government.
“There are a lot of killers,” said President Trump, “You think our country’s so innocent?”
Equally devouring Monday’s news cycle was the President’s comments about Putin and the Congresswoman’s reaction to it, and to Mr. Trump’s overall lack of sophistication and maturity. Indeed, what annoys the Congresswoman isn’t just the apparent, one-sided bromance, but Mr. Trump’s whole-being as President and his disregard for anything he doesn’t favor, or that doesn’t favor him, like the judge who ruled against the travel ban – the President called him a “so-called” judge, which was clearly an attempt to delegitimize rather than affirm.
Maxine Waters should trend on Twitter, and be known far and wide, because of her unapologetically solo resistance to the U.S. President. She isn’t playing it safe; she isn’t on the fence; and she isn’t willing to give him a chance – though absolute resistance could prove short-sided. Nonetheless, Congresswoman Waters is sure that Mr. Trump represents a clear and present danger to America, and that he has no real interest in purposely unifying the country, though his nominations and executive orders are surely unifying the advocacy communities on the political Left.
In resisting the President, and rebuking his actions, Congresswoman Waters said she speaks for herself, but in actuality she’s speaking for a great number of Americans, many of whom even now are likely somewhere protesting, or preparing to protest, Mr. Trump and his perceived anti-woman, anti-immigration, pro-police agenda. The Congresswoman’s being in this moment reinforces the notion that resistance isn’t always politically correct, but it’s often the correct thing to do.

Trump should be impeached because he doesn’t hate Putin? That’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard in awhile. “Progressives” are always suggesting we talk to our enemies because that’s the only way to make friends until someone they don’t like does it. Only a fool would fail to see that her opposition is motivated by personal hate.
It’s not just senseless – but rather worse than senseless – to call for Trump’s impeachment when he hasn’t committed any remotely impeachable offense 2 weeks into his term.
Her remarks make the left look like total fools. Even Minority Leader Pelosi tried to squash her impeachment talk yesterday
Good job, Maxine…NOT!
Are you kidding me? Maxine Waters is one of the most corrupt members of congress and stupid besides. A quick search of her bizarre quotes will put that idea to rest.
After seeing Maxine Water’s rant and inability to make an intelligent argument for impeachment, I conclude that her rant is nothing more than expressing her contempt got Donald Trump. She and the Democratic Party have a long way to go before they get their wish. If anything, she’s playing into Trump’s hand, making him more stronger.
If the Dfems don’t wake up soon, they’ll be in the woods w/ Hillary Clinton for a long time to come.
