I need more gratitude in my life. My stress levels are somewhere on the level of Empire State Building. When this happens and my usual routine is not able to handle it then I find what I need is a few extra doses of gratitude.
When stresses abound and problems keep piling on, take a few moments to think of all the blessings in life. I like to bring it back to the simplest things. Having a delicious fresh salad for lunch, the warmth of my morning cup of coffee in my hand, the feel of my pups soft fur or the sound of the river that I am so lucky to fall asleep to. Simplicity is the enemy of stress for me. When life is about these moments then I feel calm.
It can be so easy to forget to appreciate the little gifts of life in the complexity of today’s world. Organizing and coordinating work and family and friends can easily build up and become taxing. No matter how supportive our loved ones and coworkers are.
Instead of breaking down at the overwhelm, I try to remember to be grateful. Being grateful when the moments are happening can help build up some resilience. When the stresses are building up and nothing evokes feelings of gratitude then I have my prepared list, the things I know will calm me down and remind what life is truly about.
