We often misinterpret being digitally active as socially connected. We’re that generation that has gotten the world on our fingertips. It literally takes one second to reach someone miles away. And yet we are also that generation that’s really lonely :/
There’s a strange kind of “comedy in tragedy” in how we live today:
📱Of course we crave human interaction, but prefer texting five people online than talking to one person face-to-face.
🕰️Of course we think about our aging parents, but we’re too busy to take two days off and spend time with them!
💬Of course all of us have inner chaos. But why face it when you can simply doom scroll to escape it.
📉Of course we’re guilty of using social media excessively and yet it’s just so difficult to stay away from it.
And so, here are three tender facts I hope you’re reminded of, the next time you find yourself caught up in these ironies.
Hopefully, they’ll act as a tiny nudge to make you rethink your patterns :
- On social media you’re a user id. But in real life you’re someone’s child, sibling, spouse. That’s not just nothing.
- We are by design social creatures. Real talks with people will by default make you feel much better than chatting with the same people online.
- You don’t need to know more about strangers. But knowing more about the people you love? That might actually help them — and you — in real ways.
That said, I am not against social media. I truly believe that internet & social media can be boons to our lives if used in balance. It’s great if you want to move three steps forward with the internet world, please just take one step backward to be in loop with your real world too.
Because virtual world is virtual for a reason and real world is real for a reason. It only takes one tiny virus, one tiny hack to mess your whole virtual world. Whereas your real world connections? Well, hopefully they’ll remember you even after you cease to exist.
I hope you’ll think about it, even if it’s just for once!
Love ❤️
Before you go, I just want to share something, I really want to do (in one line) : “To create safe spaces — through words and presence — where people feel seen, understood, and inspired to live — not just exists”
If that speaks to you, drop a private note or comment. I’d love to hear how I can build something meaningful for you. Thanks!
