Technology has made it easier than ever to hide an affair. It’s also more likely to help you catch a cheater, too. Nowadays, you’re just as likely to catch your partner cheating through their phone as you are to smell perfume on them.
Certain apps make it easy to be discreet, which makes them a popular choice among people who aren’t loyal. Here are five apps cheaters use to hide their secret relationships.
1. Snapchat
Using Snapchat can be a huge red flag in a relationship. The app is built around disappearing texts and pictures, with messages vanishing after you view them. Photos and videos auto-delete, making it perfect for anyone who’s sending (or receiving) inappropriate content.
This makes Snapchat really appealing for people who are trying to hide an affair. It’s a common strategy used by people who don’t want to leave a digital trail of evidence of their secret relationships.
2. WhatsApp
WhatsApp is one of the most widely used messaging apps worldwide. And in some cases, it’s completely innocent. But it’s another app cheaters use to hide their affairs.
WhatsApp offers disappearing messages, archives to hide chats, and encrypted messages. All of these features can be appealing for a cheater, who wants to hide their secret relationship.
Your significant other might claim they’re using WhatsApp to talk to a friend or family member who lives internationally, since that’s how many people use the app. But if they’re suddenly using WhatsApp more often than they once did, it might be time to start asking questions.
3. Telegram
You may have never heard of this app, which could make it appealing to cheaters.
It’s similar to WhatsApp, but it offers a few benefits:
- “Secret Chat”
- Self-destructing messages
- User-named based chatting (no phone numbers required)
User-name-based chatting, especially, can be appealing to cheaters. Even if they and their affair partners get caught, there’s no risk of being exposed because whoever they’re in a relationship with won’t be able to determine who they’re chatting with.
4. Tinder (and Other Dating Apps)
Some cheaters find their affair partners at work, but others go online to seek out a partner. Tinder is one of the most common dating apps cheaters use. There are many accounts where users don’t post their faces and just post images of their bodies under fake names so their partner’s friends won’t recognize them.
If you spot a dating app on your partner’s phone, they might tell you that they deleted their profile and haven’t gotten around to deleting the app yet. But it might be time to ask yourself why they really have a dating app downloaded.
5. Calculator+ (and Other Vault Apps)
Some of the apps cheaters use aren’t social media or messaging apps. They’re actually “vault” apps that store and hide photos and videos. They can also help you store passwords and provide decoy logins.
They offer a veil of secrecy, which can make them perfect for cheaters who are looking for secret ways to store photos of their affair partners.
A Healthy Reminder
It’s worth noting that just because your significant other is using one of these apps doesn’t mean that they’re cheating. And just because they’re not using these apps doesn’t mean that they’re not cheating, either. These are just tools that some people use to hide their affairs.
If you’re reading this because you suspect that your partner is cheating, it’s important to pay attention to your gut. If something feels off in your relationship, it probably is. And you deserve more. You deserve to feel secure and stable with your partner. It might be time to reevaluate your relationship.
And if you’re on the other side and using apps to hide your secret relationships, it’s important to consider the long-term consequences. While it might feel thrilling and exciting, remember that the fallout can be permanent. Just because apps can help you hide an affair doesn’t mean that your partner won’t catch on eventually.
