The pale wonder is back and funnier than ever.

Let me start by saying that I really enjoy Jim Gaffigan, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a routine of his and not laughed the entire time. He is awkward, lazy, and complains about all the stuff that I complain about, what’s not to love? That being said I was obviously very excited about his new special, Obsessed, being released (and more than a little upset that his tour wasn’t stopping near me) and watched it as soon as I could.
It was absolutely hysterical.
The clip above is probably one of my favorite parts of the entire special, I almost choked I was laughing so hard when he started into the rant about kale. There’s just something about all these fad diets that keep popping up that lends to wonderful humor at their expense. There is much more to this rant about eating healthy and food in general, Jim Gaffigan is not afraid to point out his own love for eating.
Among all of his humor Gaffigan is always sure to bring up two things; his wife and kids.
His wife Jeanie is mentioned often in the more personal parts of his routines and of particular note is actually a cowriter of much of his comedy. In Obsessed he admits that she is way out of his league, and that he is very OK with that. I know it is part of his routine but there is something genuine in his humility about himself and his marriage, something that doesn’t always show up in the realm of celebrities.
Gaffigan has five kids, and yes he knows how weird that is. Being a dad gives him a lot of fodder for jokes, so much so that he wrote a book (Dad is Fat) about it last year. Some of his best jokes come from simply explaining the tribulations that he has run into while raising his children, things that anyone who has been around even one child can relate to.
Obsessed is on DVD now or you might be able to see it live if you are lucky enough to have the tour stop by your city. Either way you see it be ready to be a little offended but mostly you’ll laugh until it hurts.
