In the trees above the giant brevas figs are ripening and swelling to the power of the summer sun.
Even though winter seems an age away, the locals are already thinking ahead to that cool wet season.
Broccoli, red cabbage, spinach, cauliflower, and beetroot seeds are planted in the nursery beds.
Canes are being cut and dried for next year and drying racks prepared to preserve tomatoes, peppers, figs, and grapes.
In the kitchen, the plates are piled high with cooling salads and drenched with peppery green olive oil.
This is a deeply seasonal way of living and the rhythms of the people here in the Blue Zone of Saladaviciosa differ little from the wild animals that inhabit this place.
They too move with the turn of the great wheel.
