In Dusty Childers’s hometown of Gaffney, South Carolina, a hospice nurse named Gloria stood out – elegant wardrobe, sweet disposition, and down to earth attitude. So it came as a surprise to Dusty when she spoke to his religious education class and shared a cautionary tale of a gay man dying of AIDS who – in the moment of death – believed he was about to enter Hell. Traumatic to say the least, but fortunately Dusty was able to step away from this homophobic religious environment, with the help of a few “angels” – and an ice cream shop! – along the way.
