Mindset matters
Have you ever woken up in the morning and the first thoughts in your mind are something along the lines of…….Ugh I don’t want to get up, I hate my job so much, I don’t want to deal with these problems today, I just can’t, etc.
After that, you proceed to bury yourself under the covers and decide maybe you’ll try again tomorrow but today is not the day.
Your thoughts have much more power over us than we think. But that is exactly why we should not let our thoughts wander aimlessly, especially towards negative thoughts. We have to take control! We cannot let our thoughts have this much power. We have to use our thoughts for good but in order to do this we have to be deliberate in our approach.
…
If you are suddenly feeling overly emotional, sad, maybe a bit depressed…. what is it you were just thinking about? Maybe it was something hurtful a co-worker said to you at work, a fight you had with your spouse, something you really wanted that didn’t happen, and you are disappointed about. You were thinking about these things and it took your emotions in a negative direction with them.
I started paying much more attention to this. As I got older and had more adulting to do — full-time work at a stressful job, child-rearing, home ownership, paying bills, maintaining a household — I was not as much the happy-go-lucky person that I was in my younger years. But I wasn’t sure why this was.
I started journaling to take a deeper dive. I noticed that certain emotions followed negative thoughts. I wanted this to change. I wanted to be happier, feel more fulfilled, and enjoy life even the regular, mundane days that didn’t have anything special or unique to them.
One change I decided to make was to start my day off with a step in the right direction and a positive one. I was never a morning person so this was a challenge for me. But I could not keep going on with a negative mindset first thing in the day which dragged me down and was setting the rest of my day up for a negative vibe. I started doing the exercise below and it has made a huge difference for me.
In the morning, have a couple of your own custom go-to mantras to start your day in a more positive mindset. Whatever works for you.
Some examples:
- Today is going to be a great day!
- I can handle all things that come my way!
- Something good is going to happen to me I just know it!
- I am a good person and I will find ways that I can help others today!
This simple exercise is surprisingly effective. It resets your brain into thinking positive thoughts and that these things will indeed happen!
Just saying and thinking your positive mantras will manifest good things for you. Your positive words do become your new reality.
It takes a little practice, but after a while, it will become a new daily habit you won’t even have to think about.
You will start your day and your mindset in a positive direction that will improve your entire day!
