Life is a tapestry woven from threads of achievement, love, adversity, and, sometimes, challenges we never could have anticipated.
As I look back over the decades, the story of our lives together unfolds with remarkable vibrancy, a story marked by ambition, perseverance, unwavering partnership, and now …
An uncharted journey ahead.
We built our family with pride and joy, raising two sons who, in turn, blessed us with five grandsons. Watching generations grow, carrying forward our legacy, has been one of life’s most profound rewards.
But our story stretches far beyond the bounds of family. My husband, whose career was defined by the highest levels of integrity and commitment, ascended to the upper echelons of counter-terrorism within the Australian Government.
His life was dedicated to service, sharp, vigilant, and courageous. For years, he stood on the frontlines of safety and security, balancing the gravity of his work with steadfast devotion to our home and family.
Meanwhile, my journey took a different path, one driven by an entrepreneurial spark that refused to dim. From humble beginnings, I ventured into the world of business, embracing risks and rewards in equal measure. I flipped properties in real estate, delighting in the challenge and satisfaction of turning vision into value.
My creative side flourished as I penned children’s illustrated books, hoping to inspire young minds with wonder and wisdom. For decades, I poured my passion into running a beauty college, fostering confidence and skill in countless students. These pursuits were more than business; they were an expression of self, of dreams realized through hard work and determination.
No life is without its hardships. We have faced our share of challenges, setbacks, disappointments, and periods of uncertainty. Yet through it all, our resolve never wavered. Together, we built financial security, a testament to both careful planning and an undaunted spirit.
Each obstacle became a lesson, every success a shared triumph.
Our partnership was not just in love, but in every endeavour, every risk, every reward.
But some challenges come without warning, unfurling like a storm on the horizon, changing everything in their path.
Today, I find myself at such a crossroads, having received news that will alter the course of our lives forever. This is a test unlike any other, one that no amount of preparation, success, or resilience can truly soften.
And yet, it is a challenge that, paradoxically, my husband does not fully face. The merciful veil of memory loss spares him the knowledge of what lies ahead. His years as a high-profile counter-terrorist agent were spent in anticipation, in readiness, constantly aware of the risks.
But now, in the twilight of our lives, his memory gently retreats, insulating him from the weight of this new reality.
Perhaps, in this, there is a strange and quiet kindness. After a lifetime of vigilance, of carrying burdens unspoken and responsibilities immense, his mind offers him rest.
He remains my friend, my lover, my soulmate, my husband, roles that persist even as the details of our shared history begin to blur.
For me, the challenge is twofold: to navigate the days ahead, to care, to comfort, and to find strength even as I grieve the gradual loss of the man who has stood by me for a lifetime.
It is a journey marked by love and loss, by memory and forgetting.
As I stand at the threshold of this new chapter, I am reminded of all we have built: our family, our achievements, and our unbreakable bond.
Though the future is uncertain, it is shaped by the same courage and resilience that brought us this far.
I will walk this path with the same devotion that has defined our lives, holding fast to the love that endures, even as memories fade.
In the end, our story is not just one of success or adversity, but of steadfast love.
A love that persists, quietly and powerfully, through every season of life.
