I voted today!
California, like many states, has early voting. And, also like many states — the line to vote early was an hour and a half. The only thing unlike other states, perhaps, was that in sunny CA, some of the voting booths are outside.
As I stood there in the blistering heat with fellow voters, not one person complained. No one left the line. Democracy is worth it.
(Note: If you are voting on Election Day, there will most likely be many more polling places open, and it will probably not be as much a wait. If it is—vote anyway!)
This year—my birthday falls on Election Day. I have a simple request—don’t wish me a Happy Birthday. Wish me a Happy Election Day! Don’t send me a card—send me your “I Voted” sticker. Believe me, that will be far more meaningful. I would truly like our democracy to outlast me by generations—unless there is something else we can come up with together that will truly ensure equality for all. But for now, this is what we’ve got. Democracy. So please vote. A simple concept like “equality for all” can and will change the world. That is what I voted for.
