As I cultivated my spiritual fitness program, I tapped into a new world I hadn’t known existed…
—
Twelve years ago at the age of 33, I met a woman named Linda who does energy work/body work, and has now become a powerful mentor of mine. A few years earlier, at age 29, most of my spiritual fitness work was prayer, reading, writing, running, lifting weights, and a weekly body massage. I had done some therapy with my former partner when I was 27, which had opened me up to the reading and writing part of my spiritual fitness program. I give you this background to show that because I was already doing spiritual fitness work, I was ready, open, and willing for more growth.
She didn’t even touch me, and I felt so alive with energy flowing throughout my body.

I discovered Linda by calling for a massage. We had just moved from Chicago to a city near Lake Michigan. After seeing a flyer, I left a message on Linda’s answering machine and didn’t hear back from her for a few weeks. When she did call back she mentioned she usually doesn’t do callbacks, but something made her call me back. I highlight this to show there are greater powers at play in life beyond our limited perceptions. This was the first time that I made the connection about Body, Mind and Spirit being interconnected. In addition, like we have mentioned on the Humble Warrior Podcast, when the student is ready the teacher will appear.
She explained to me that she was a bodyworker and specialized in energy work, and went on to say she mostly works with children. However, she explained that if I was interested she would do a session with me. Having no idea what this work was about, I jumped up at the opportunity and booked an appointment. It’s important to note that because I was already doing work on myself, I knew intuitively that this was worth exploring.
My session was amazing. She didn’t even touch me, and I felt so alive with energy flowing throughout my body. She educated me that first session on some blockages through my chakras. (Chakras, what’s that? One could write a whole book on chakras; a good resource is A Handbook of Chakra Healing by Kalashatra Govind.) The point I’m trying to make is I had no idea what this stuff was about, but it made me feel good and I wanted to know more. Since that time, Linda has worked on my whole family, including my youngest daughter, who was four months at the time. As she moved to Atlanta several years ago, we hadn’t seen Linda for a couple of years, until today.

Today we were blessed that Linda was in town for a conference and had a few hours to spare with my family at our house. As soon as she got here, my youngest daughter got on the table for energy work. Linda and I chatted for 45 minutes. Talk was all we needed. As we said our goodbyes, she said, “Chris, you taught me so much as my student, and I’m now ready to learn from you. You are ready.” This is the highest compliment one can get from a teacher. She has taught me so much over the last 12 years and has been instrumental in my growth.
I’m so thankful and grateful for Linda in my life, and at the same time, I’m very humbled. There will be more teachers and mentors for me as long as I stay committed to growing. They are out there for you, too!
