I want to highlight what’s going on at The Good Men Project — a group that is changing what it means to be a media organization. We have a soft spot for The Good Men Project since it is The Vantage’s first syndication partner, and it is taking steps to expand the unique community of writers, bloggers, and social interest groups that it’s cultivated up to this point.
The Good Men Project describes itself as “a diverse community of 21st century thought leaders who are actively participating in a conversation about the way men’s roles are changing in modern life—and the way those changes affect everyone.” In a time when many mainstream media outlets are bogged down in all sorts of controversies, it’s a breath of fresh air to be part of a community of open-minded writers sharing a variety of perspectives on news and politics, relationships, sports, culture, and even money (that’s us!).
The Good Men Project calls itself a “participatory media company” and now attracts over 4 million visitors each month. What does it mean to be a participatory media company, you might ask? Well, part of it is the community of social interest groups that The Good Men Project’s members and readers can join. These are groups of like-minded individuals who come together to talk about important issues in the world, including weekly facilitated calls and ongoing opportunities to share and discuss ideas on key issues facing the world.
We admire this sort of vision here at The Vantage, since open-mindedness and productive dialogue seem to be in short supply these days within the traditional media landscape. Just as we aim to start a discussion on money and be a resource for younger people trying to take control of their personal finances, The Good Men Project is building an impressive network of writers and readers alike to cover a host of important issues across the board.
Today, The Good Men Project is launching an IndieGoGo campaign to keep the momentum going and reinvent media. Rather than the media being something we passively consume — as has been the historical media model — The Good Men Project has created a platform where people can come together to actively learn, discuss, and collaborate on key issues in the world today:
What if you could actually talk to people—any time, from anyone in the world—about subjects that really matter? What if every day, there was a group of people you could jump on a phone call with—people who want to solve some of the most difficult problems on the planet, people who are insightful and articulate and helpful. People who want to take action.
Take a closer look at what The Good Men Project is creating, visit the IndieGoGo campaign, and contribute and share if you feel so inclined. Here at The Vantage, we are excited to be working with The Good Men Project to reinvent media and build upon an engaged community of members looking to make a positive impact on the world. That’s something we can get behind!
