I was sitting on my kitchen floor at 2:00 AM. No lights. Just the cold tiles under me and the sound of my own heavy breathing.
In front of me was my laptop. It was open, but the screen was dark. I had just closed a tab that said “Application Rejected.” It was the fourth one this week. My bank account was low, my energy was lower, and my heart? My heart was just… tired.
I looked at my hands in the dark. They were shaking a little bit.
“Maybe they are right,” I thought. “Maybe I am not built for this. Maybe I should just stop dreaming and accept that I am lost.”
The Pressure of Being “Perfect”
We live in a world where everyone is “Winning.” You scroll your phone and see people with perfect teeth, perfect jobs, and perfect vacations. It makes you feel like if you are struggling, you are doing something wrong.
But that night on the kitchen floor, I realized a scary truth: I was trying so hard to look successful that I forgot how to be human.
I was tired of the “Hustle.” I was tired of “Grinding.” I just wanted to be okay.
The Small Miracle in the Dark
While I was sitting there, feeling sorry for myself, my phone buzzed.
It wasn’t a job offer. It wasn’t a viral notification. It was a simple text from an old friend I hadn’t talked to in months. It just said:
“Hey, I saw a flower today that reminded me of you. Hope you are doing okay. Drink some water.”
It was such a small, “tuti-futi” little message. No big advice. No “hustle” talk. Just a human reaching out to another human.
And suddenly, the suspense of my “Failure” didn’t feel so heavy anymore. — –
Why It’s Okay to Be “Under Construction”
I didn’t get a job the next morning. My problems didn’t disappear. But my mindset shifted. I realized that life isn’t a straight line to the top. It’s a messy, broken, beautiful walk through the dark.
- Your struggle is not your identity. It’s just your current chapter.
- Small wins count. Drinking water, texting a friend, or just breathing through a panic attack — that is progress too.
- Being “Human” is better than being “Perfect.” We are all “Under Construction.” And that is okay. The cracks in us are where the light gets in.
Finding Joy in the Mess
I stood up from that kitchen floor. I didn’t finish my work that night. Instead, I made a cup of tea. I watched the steam rise in the dark. I felt the warmth of the mug in my hands.
I realized that I don’t need to have my whole life figured out by tomorrow. I just need to get through tonight.
If you are sitting on your own version of a “cold kitchen floor” right now — please know you aren’t alone. You aren’t a failure. You are just a human having a hard time. And that is enough.
