The simple arithmetic of friendship, when four becomes one.

There Are Four
Irvin Gutierrez-Lopez
There are four.
The center of the hallway in the West Building 2nd floor.
Once the bell rang for lunch or nutrition, that’s where we were.
Keivan, Chris, William, and myself.
It was our spot and no one could take it from us.
Four friends always hanging out
Always talking and never with a new crowd.
People always wondered why we always hung out.
It’s because we always had each other’s back when we had our ups and downs.
There are four.
They were the coolest friends I ever had.
Until one day it all went bad
Because now they’ve graduated and I stayed back.
Now the spot is empty, no one is there, there is one.
