Sometimes the best advice comes when you least expect it. For me, I received one of the greatest tips of achieving your goal during Touch Football practice back in my Polytechnic days.
If you don’t know what Touch Football is, here’s a short clip.
Watch Their Feet
In sports, we tend to keep our eyes on the ball because we’re taught to “keep your eyes on the prize”. But my senior told us to watch on our competitors’ feet instead.
Why?
Focusing on the ball keeps you away from the actual movement. You’ll end up following a fake movement that distracts you from your objective. Watch how Number 3 did it.
How Does This Apply To Life & Work
We all have people we idolize and mentors we follow. Our goals are to someday be like them… or similar to what they’ve accomplished. We follow them on social media and listen to their tips & advice on how to they’ve made it.
Don’t listen to what I say. Watch what I do
— Gary Vaynerchuk
Listening to advice is like watching the ball. We are looking at the goal in mind and blindly following. But if we were to watch their feet (actions), we see what they’re actually doing to get to their goal.
So, this is a simple reminder to not be blinded by words. Action speaks louder.
If you want to succeed in your field, pick a mentor and watch what they do.
