I didn’t fall in love.
Falling sounds too dramatic. Too clean.
Like some big movie moment where everything slows down, violins swell, and BAM — you’re head over heels.
Nope. Not my story.
My love crept in sideways. Sneaky as hell. Slow. Like watching moss grow on a rock. You don’t notice it at first. But then you blink, and suddenly it’s everywhere. Weird, right?
They called it an arranged marriage.
But calling it “arranged” feels… wrong.
Sure, our families set it up. But it wasn’t some neat little package tied with a bow.
Nope. It was messy. Awkward. Like trying to put together IKEA furniture without the instructions. You think you know what you’re doing, but halfway through, you realize you’ve got screws left over. And no idea where they go. That’s what this felt like.
At first, he felt… foreign.
Not bad, just different.
His laugh? Too loud. The way he chewed his food? Irritating AF.
And don’t even get me started on the socks. Dude literally left them EVERYWHERE. Couch, bed, bathroom floor — you name it. I found one under the couch cushion THREE MONTHS LATER. Who does that?! Seriously.
We weren’t soulmates. Not at first anyway.
We were strangers sharing a space. Fumbling around like two cats forced to live in the same box.
Conversations were awkward. Silences stretched longer than they should have.
Sometimes we’d sit across from each other, both pretending the tension wasn’t suffocating. Other times, we’d argue about dumb stuff. Whose turn it was to wash dishes. Why he couldn’t just use a damn hamper. Is it really that hard?!
But here’s the thing:
Somewhere along the way, those little annoyances became… endearing?
Like, yeah, his laugh is still loud. But now it makes me smile instead of cringe.
And okay, fine, maybe the sock thing is kinda cute because it means he feels comfortable enough to leave his crap lying around.
Love didn’t come in big, obvious ways. It snuck in quietly. Hiding in the cracks between us.
It showed up in the small things.
Like how he brings me tea when I’m stressed — even though I never ask for it. Or how he notices when I’m having a bad day and texts me random memes to cheer me up.
Those tiny acts added up. Layer by layer. Until one day I looked around and thought, “Huh. This actually works.”
Was it perfect? Hell no.
There were days when we fought so hard I wondered if we’d make it. Days when communication felt impossible. Like we were speaking completely different languages.
But then there were the other days — the ones where everything clicked. Where silence didn’t feel awkward anymore; it felt safe.
That’s when I knew we weren’t strangers anymore. Love had taken root. Not in grand gestures, but in the invisible threads tying us together.
This isn’t a fairy tale.
Let’s be real: there’s no prince charming riding in on a white horse. No magical happily-ever-after wrapped in shiny wrapping paper.
What we have is messy. Complicated. Real.
It’s not perfect, it never will be. But it’s ours. And honestly? That’s better than any fairy tale.
Now, when people ask about my marriage, I don’t sugarcoat it.
Yeah, it started with signatures and vows. With all the uncertainty of stepping into deep water without knowing how to swim.
But the love?
It came quietly, patiently, proving itself real in ways I couldn’t have predicted. It’s not flashy or loud. It’s subtle, stubborn, and kind of breathtaking in its own weird way.
And me?
I’ve learned to embrace it. All of it — the good, the bad, the messy middle.
Because that’s what love really is: figuring out how to speak the same language, even when the words don’t come easy.
Oh, and also? Socks. Still everywhere.
