For their last album’s final recording session REM chose Berlin’s legendary Hansa TonStudio. And since there was to be no tour for this final production, the group brought in a camera crew to get some footage of their last week together. Very few people knew that would be the band’s last gig, but family and friends were invited to the Berlin studio to watch REM “perform most of the new album.” The entire experience of the making of “Collapse Into Now,” the band’s 15th and final album, has been chronicled by Tony Fletcher in the book titled “REM: Perfect Circle,” which is out next month.
