Tom Matlack was asked “What was your favorite year?”
What’s my favorite year, you ask?
The year I went to college?
The year my first child was born?
The year I made my first million?
The year I got sober?
The year I got remarried?
No, my favorite year hasn’t happened yet.
I’m banking on 2025.
By then we’ll all be driving electric cars.
By then millions of children will no longer die from starvation in Africa.
By then we will have stopped imprisoning men rather than educating them.
By then cancer will be cured.
By then we’ll have a woman President.
In 2025, I will be sixty.
My kids will be thirty-one, twenty-nine and twenty.
One will be an actress.
One will have served in the army.
One will be running for senate.
One will be traveling the world.
I’ll be even more in love with my wife.
Maybe I’ll be a grandfather.
I will still be young.
But I will have mellowed.
I hope.
Because a great life will have become even greater.
And we will have solved some of our most vexing problems.
I hope.

That said, I hope it all happens. My favourite year is probably 2011, the year I gained HOPE,… Read more »
My favorite year was 2011. I look around my living room at these 4 women, wife and 3 daughters, and realize that last year was when we jelled as a blended family. I’ve never been happier. we had a great day, today. So, 2012 should be even better.
