What if I told you that many of us live our lives asleep at the wheel, in a semi-numb state of being? What if I told you that every experience and relationship you’ve ever had, was as a direct result of your pre-programmed thinking?
Cell biologist, lecturer, and internationally recognized speaker and teacher Bruce Lipton, tells us that the science now suggests “we operate our lives 95 percent of the time from subconscious programs, and only 5 percent of the time from the creative, personal, conscious mind” (https://www.brucelipton.com/happy-healthy-child-holistic-approach/). In other words, 95% of the time we rely on old patterns, old beliefs, old stories, and old programs, most of which we learned before the age of 7.
Reality check! Most of our waking hours, we are asleep at the wheel. That can’t be good – a ‘crash n burn’ waiting to happen.
In other words, most of us are running our lives on autopilot, wondering why we are so unhappy and unfulfilled in our work, our relationships, and our lives.
This sub-conscious level of existence is learned from our parents, other adults, observations, TV, media, school, and whatever we were exposed to during those early years.
What if I told you that almost everything we do, every relationship we ever have, every behaviour and belief, every experience, is almost always running off old programs, old patterns, and old stories, repeating like mice on a wheel.
And along with it, the weight of all our fears, insecurities, and doubts about how the world works and how life is.
It’s bloody exhausting!
What if I told you that over 65,000 Australians make a suicide attempt each year, with about 75% being men (https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/resources-support/suicide-self-harm/facts-about-suicide-in-australia/) Living a life of silently feeling like a failure, because nothing ever seems to change, leads us to dark places.
Could you be living a life that is unsatisfying, simply because you are living from a subconscious state of mind? And could you be living a life of awakened intent, if only you knew how?
Conscious creators
To create something new and different to what we have ever experienced before, I want to throw the idea out there that we need to start to become conscious creators.
To create our own authentic life, and be co-creators of a life worth living, we need to make conscious decisions, and become aware of what we want to change.
Ask yourself these 3 questions:
- What type of experiences do you want to have?
- What type of life do you want to live?
- What is stopping you?
Matrix fans will know the line in the film, where Morpheus suggests “you take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.”
Now this is not a blog about red pill. That’s a whole other story. But this IS a blog about living and leading a conscious, awakened ‘red pill’ life.
This might be as simple as, I want to be healthy, I want to have great relationships, I want to work a meaningful job. And whilst that sounds simple, but intent alone is not enough.
To create an awakened life, you’ll first need to wake up and start making some conscious choices to change the old story you have been living till now.
If you want to keep experiencing the ‘same old – same old’, unsatisfying, disappointing, frustrating life and relationships, then stay asleep at the wheel, and let your subconscious run the show. You’ll get the same old mish-mash of repeated patterns.
The truth of the matter is that most of us are living out the pathology of our childhood. Our parents handed a set of standards and beliefs down to us, which they got from their parents, and so on.
By the time you reach adulthood, most of your beliefs and values about how you live life, how you show up, how you create and build relationships, how you think, feel and act, are not your own.
Ever known someone who repeats the same relationship patterns over and over? They might change partners, but they keep having the same experiences. Maybe this is you.
Until you become conscious of making different choices, and thinking differently, and challenging your own beliefs and assumptions, chances are you will keep repeating those same old patterns.
Bruce Lipton calls our sub-conscious mind the programmed mind. He explains that we are all born with an operating system. And in the first 7 years of life, we are busy programming and downloading information, mostly by observation – from the people around us. Once programmed, we live out the rest of our lives that way.
If we don’t wake up to consciousness, we become our own worst enemy, repeating old patterns and self-sabotaging everything good.
That belief you have about how relationships never work out – not yours.
That belief you have about how money is so hard to come by – not yours.
That belief you have about how people always let you down – not yours.
That belief you have about how unworthy you are – not yours.
There are so many more. I’m sure you could name your own.
What is it you want to create? Who do you want to create it with?
It’s entirely possible.
It’s also entirely impossible.
But you hold the key.
It’s buried in your subconscious mind.
It’s time to awaken. It’s time to question what you’ve been told. It’s time to question what you believe. It’s time to live a conscious life and re-write the story of your life.
