@AB I realize that now. My apologies, it was a bad, frustrating day yesterday and I’m not exactly coherent about why something bothers me at the best of times. 🙁
Emmeline, you just erased most homosexual male victims of abuse yourself. As well as many heterosexual male victims who were abused by other men. You also didn’t express any outrage that the tweet erases the female victims who were abused by women too.
Not trying to attack you here, just pointing out that these sorts of patterns are really, really easy to repeat without thinking about it, and not everybody who presents a gendered scenario of abuse is trying erase all others.
Emmeline, that’s also some pretty pathological demonization of male sexuality you found there. That’s a good catch.
It’s telling that the curent vampire craze features male vampires almost exclusively – whatever female vampires are included are very much bit players. In East Asian folklores vampires are typically female, and wait as clouds of fog by footpaths to seduce unsuspecting passers-by. Not much better but dfferent.
There’s a condescending retweet going around of my feed that makes me want to cry: “Sex isn’t like vampires. You don’t invite a penis in and then it gets to come in whenever it wants forever. Get consent EVERY time.”
Thank you for erasing every male sufferer of abuse with that, guys.
The global gender gap report 2011 is out http://reports.weforum.org/global-gender-gap-2011/ This illustrates the feminist-industrial bias of equality pretty well (and legitimises the MR-mob…) How equality works according to the world equality forum: Russia ranks highest in the life-expectancy index, because there women live a whopping 18% longer than men! (women average healthy life 65 yrs, men 55y). Places like Japan (women live 79yrs, men 73yrs) rank 36, because the gap is only 6%. BAD EQUALITY! Qatar scores in education, because 6 times more women than men get higher education. And of course, any issues perceived as men’s issues are absent. Unpaid… Read more »

I’m more of an FF8 guy, to be honest.”
Bah! FF6 (or 3 if you’re from the U.S.) All the way! Sure, the graphics weren’t great- it was the SNES after all- but the characters and story were fairly solid.
Perhaps the Wiz song I mentioned could be a sort of Kipling Effect thing for me, as is most of the rap I sometimes listen to…it’s catchy and sounds cool even though it’s a terrible message.
Question…ever listened to Wiz Khalifa’s song ‘Never Been?’ It’s typical gangsta rap but it samples liberally from Schala’s theme. Of course, some would say that’s an insult to Schala, given the content of the lyrics (rich ‘playa’ acting like he’s on top of the world and easy with the women) Not heard of it frankly. I’m not much of a music person…except if I appreciated the game’s music of a game I played, chances are I could seek the soundtrack of it, and download it (you try and find game soudtracks in your average music store – and online they… Read more »
I realize that this is kind of out of the blue, but…
God, I can’t stand Hugo Schwyzer.
Yeah, Chrono Trigger was pretty good.
Chrono Cross was confusing but I loved it and it had one of the best soundtracks ever.
And yes, I <3 Schala.

Did you follow the plot of Chrono Trigger? Lavos is some extraterrestrial organism that arrives in 65 million BC and buries into the ground. A glacial era lasting 64,990,000 years ushers, provoked by Lavos’s sucking up the energy of the planet to strengthen itself. Lavos gets awakened, stronger than ever (seriously, as a boss there he kicks serious butt), in 10,000 BC, destroying the Magical Kingdom of Zeal (and Schala comes from there, obviously), and Lavos gets summoned by Janus Zeal in 600 AD, vanishing for a while. It declared sovereignty over the planet in 1999 AD, and by 2300… Read more »
…yeah, scalar error in my brain still there, apparently. I really didn’t follow the plot of FF7 too much.
Also: I’m a trans woman who doesn’t use make-up and is a tomboy by certain standards (like not being fashion conscious, not gossiping and having weird, per mainstream standards anyways, hair hygiene practices). And I have 3 feet long hair, always kept down, not tied.
I do like lolita fashion dresses though, but I’m pretty sure this was only tangential to Nadeshiko.

Sephiroth was a momma’s boy if you consider that Jenova was his mother, but his mother was Lucrecia, his father Hojo, and only Jenova cells while he was in fetal stage have been injected. It makes him much more susceptible to Jenova than a regular SOLDIER, but he’s still not her son.
Jenova is also an orgamism from some other place in space (not mentioned) that came to destroy all living beings on this planet, before going on. Sort of like Lavos, but faster than 65 million years.
Well, Sephiroth was quite a mommas boy, if memory serves. :p
Anyway, it was a female character that was being discussed, apparently he seems to think “long hair = yamato nadeshiko, short hair = tough as nails tomboy” or some shit like that.
I am a fairly new arrival to the site.
Also, one person saying to do it doesn’t amount to much.
While at the same time, treating men like children at best and predators at worst will continue to march on in this society, and not just from feminists either.
Sephiroth, long hair, enough said.
Some might contend Sephiroth was emo, but he was just nihilist. Wanting to destroy the world and actually organizing everything just so the world almost explodes…sounds pretty macho, tough, and suicidal to me. Why go alone? Take a planet with you.
That’s strange balconyscene, I don’t remember you objecting very loudly on this site when it called for women to admit their female privilege. Oh well, I’m sure you did and I just didn’t notice it.
@Schala:
No, balconyscene was specifically referring to women. With all the bitching about Hugo Schwyzer going on around here, it seems to be a common perception that a male feminist can make the same mistakes a female feminist can. So when balconyscene chooses a wording which not only includes billions of non-feminists but also excludes people like Schwyzer, there has to be some reason for it, which is most likely that he meant what he wrote.
Well then, the second wave feminists sound more honest than the “men must admit their privilege, those filthy oppressers, they sure do suck don’t they-oh no, I don’t hate men, I just hate their privilege, don’t take what I say to heart, now check your privilege, worm!” of today. On a side note, I just gave a friend of mine a light tap with the clue bat, was talking about this week’s chapter of Bleach and he mentioned how he would like to see one of the characters with longer hair though he ‘understood that it would go against her… Read more »
“I live in SC, so I am more Real Murrican than you,” Correction – you are an Ohioan, so that makes you more a Real Murican – though without us and our gold there wouldn’t be no Real Murica. But SC – they made thier decision a long time ago. Just ask your fellow Ohioan, Uncle Billy, and remember what he said going in to Columbia./goofing turned off Ellen Willis was pretty impressive, except for the homophobic stuff among the Redstockings, but that’s not directly her formone thing, and that was a long time ago and people were on a… Read more »
I live in SC, so I am more Real Murrican than you, and I eat tofu. Its a dirty job but somebody has to do it! 😛
Interestingly, the vegetarian bumper stickers didn’t make people mad the way “Another Mama for Obama” bumper sticker did. Even now that I am ticked at him, I won’t scrub it off, just because I enjoy being contrary.
“She also eats meat, so *everything* I said didn’t take.” I saw some refence to the tofu controversy – how the whole refusal to eat tofu is soem gendered crap. Horseshit. It’s about class and region. Tofu is all us West Coast pinheads preaching to the Real Muricans, snobbish assholes that we are. Well maybe if someone mashed it up like brains and threw it on some grits people would get past that. There’s how far we has fallen – absolutely every social issue has to be seen through the lens of gneder – and then they wonder when people… Read more »
Gingko, Ellen Willis was a co-founder of the Redstockings. Hard core, but possibly not by Third Wave standards (too socialist). Her daughter sometimes posts at Feministe and I think is friends w/Jill? Yeah, what upsets me is that young women like MY daughter do not identify w/feminism as a movement (except for the way they vote and so on) and sit it out, largely because of how I raised her. She fires guns and drives a pick-up. But her marriage is very egalitarian and I am pleased about that. She also eats meat, so *everything* I said didn’t take. 😛… Read more »
