We know that the world is changing. Not everyone is heterosexual. Not all parents are straight. Some children of same-sex parents are straight. Some are gay. And ditto with heterosexual parents: sometimes their children are straight, sometimes they are gay.
At The Good Men Project—-we believe that all of this is normal.
There are few people in this world who don’t have friends, family members or loved ones who are LGBTQ. And, like most of the rapidly changing issues in the world, we want to talk about it. Our newest Social Interest Group Non-Heteronormative Parenting is a way for people interested in this change to come talk about it. Regardless of your sexual orientation, your gender, whether you are a parent, or child or educator, this will be a community of people who can learn and grow together.
It will be led by Good Men Project Editors Rob Watson, a gay dad with straight kids, and Hillary Lauren Jastram, a straight mom with gay kids.
Like all of our Social Interest Groups, this group will hold a weekly conference call for one hour every week, so you can talk to other members of the community and share ideas. Then, in between calls, an email thread will connect the community and allow communication with the other members throughout the week. The initial group is five weeks long but may be extended depending on interest.
As Andrew Solomon, a gay child of straight parents once said:
“You can love someone but not accept him; you can accept someone but not love him. I wrongly felt the flaws in my parents’ acceptance as deficits in their love. Now, I think their primary experience was of having a child who spoke a language they’d never thought of studying.”

Our Non-Heteronormative Parenting group will be held on Tuesdays at 9 pm EST / 6 pm PST and will run for 5 weeks starting on Tuesday, December 13, 2016.
The Good Men Project has, for years, looked at and written about the changing roles of men in the modern world—and how that change affects all of the major issues of our day. Over 2.5 million people visit the site each month for a variety of reasons: because they care about the issues of men and boys, because they care about eradicating racism, sexism, and homophobia, or because the world is changing so fast that they want to find ways of keeping up. It is truly “the conversation no one else is having” — because no other media company in the world discusses men and change and goodness in quite this way. And out of that change has risen a deep and engaged community, where people most involved in this conversation care about and support each other.
The Good Men Project is a Participatory Media Company: We not only provide content you can read and share but we offer a multitude of ways you can actually participate in the all-important conversation about the changing roles of men in the 21st century. Social Interest Groups are a transformative new initiative that will take our conversation to the next level by forming communities that are organized around particular issues.
Social Interest Groups are for Good Men Project Gold and Platinum Premium members only.

We have pioneered the largest worldwide conversation about what it means to be a good man in the 21st century. Your support of our work is inspiring and invaluable. Our mission is to challenge the stereotypes around masculinity, to advocate for equality, and to be a voice and a catalyst for change in the issues that disproportionately affect men. Our heartfelt gratitude for believing in our mission and wanting to be a part of this important conversation at The Good Men Project.
