In today’s dating culture, we use this line a lot.
“Babe, let’s go with the flow.”
and then I read a beautiful quote today that is very different from what we used to think.
“Only dead fish can go with the flow.”
If we behave like a dead fish, we may fall into a trap of so-called situationship. The flow in a relationship has to be thought out logically. Going with the flow in a kind of relationship will only hurt you in the end. Where one person catches the feelings and the other is just playing around with a lot of options. We yearn for true love but don’t have time to invest time. We tend to run away from one person to another.
I have a friend who used to catch feelings every trimester and then run away with the thought of what if she gets serious. What if her family came to know about this? Initially, everything is mutual.
It’s a trend nowadays to move on from one person to another and roam around your whole life. Finally to get settled and have an arranged marriage. Where they are actually marrying someone else’s girlfriend and boyfriend.
On the contrary, I should not neglect the fact that people get hurt in the process of loving the wrong person. Sometimes the circumstances are not favorable. Sometimes they lack communication, maturity, and respect. Love demands consistent efforts from both sides.
People are still struggling to find their perfect partner or soul mate. It’s never been easy to complete that hunt. The search is ongoing. Growing up in the ’90s, I always knew love for the big romantic gestures in Shahrukh Khan movies: dating culture has never been easy for me. But modern-day romance tales weave a different web.
I was dazzled to know about the dating terminology I read online. Here they are:
Throning
Dating someone solely for their social status or popularity.
Taxation ship
Relationship built on constant texting with little to no in-person or physical interaction.
Pink flag
Minor concerns that may seem harmless now but could escalate over time.
Affordating
Being honest about finances and discussing budgets and priorities from the start.
Sneating
Going on a date just for free food.
Pocketing
A toxic trend where one partner avoids introducing their partner to friends and family.
Paper clipping
When an ex or ghoster pops back into your life without any real intention to reconnect.
Orbiting
When someone cuts off contact but keeps lurking on your social media.
The list is endless.
Nothing has changed, and everything has changed. We are still waiting for the perfect match with same ideologies and needs. Where love is not the priority anymore. Lastly, we settle with whatever comes in between.
