I always thought of myself as someone who wasn’t racist. I didn’t see color or think anyone was less than me. But in doing that, as well as NOT doing anything, I was actually being racist. I am starting this series, “The Antiracist White Chick,” because I am learning so much in my newfound passion to grow and change and DO something about the racism that is, literally, killing our country.
I am calling myself out and demanding more and hope it will help and allow my fellow White folk to do the same. It is (past) time we all make the antiracist journey and truly accept and empower racial differences of all kinds. I will mess up, I will say things wrong, but I am here and I am learning and I am not going to stop.
Episode 1: Racist, Antiracist, and “Not” Racist begins with a few basic definitions, some things I have learned about my own white privileged and racist ways, and ideas on how we White folk can be better examples of antiracism, daily.
Thank you, truly, to Ibram X. Kendi for his brilliant book, “How to be an Antiracist,” which has helped me begin my antiracist journey. It is eye opening and heart breaking and vulnerable and wise beyond explanation. I hope I am doing your work justice.
Stay tuned for more Episodes…The Antiracist White Chick is just getting started! I hope you continue to join me in learning and growing and, most importantly, DOING something about racism. I am excited you are here!
