I never realised how loud silence could be until it was all I had.
The moment after an argument. The moment after she walked out. The moment after I sat in a room that used to hold laughter, now only holding the weight of everything unsaid. Silence isn’t just the absence of noise — it’s the presence of everything you can’t bring yourself to say.
I used to think I was in control. Of my emotions, of my responses, of the way people saw me. But I wasn’t. I was ruled by fear — fear of abandonment, fear of being misunderstood, fear that no matter how much I tried, I would never be enough. So I held on too tightly. I spoke too harshly. I lashed out when what I really wanted to say was, please don’t leave me.
It took losing everything to realise how much I had already lost inside myself.
I think back to my father — his rage, his panic, the way he would fall apart when he felt powerless. I remember telling myself, I’ll never be like that. And yet, when I look back at the moments that mattered, I see myself trapped in the same cycle.
How much of us is shaped by what we swore we’d never become?
I’ve spent years reacting instead of understanding. Fighting instead of feeling. And now, sitting in the wreckage of it all, I finally understand that no one ever truly wins in a war against themselves.
I’m learning that healing isn’t just about fixing what’s broken — it’s about understanding why it broke in the first place.
Some days, I feel like I’m making progress. Other days, I feel like I’m drowning in the weight of everything I’ve suppressed. But for the first time in my life, I’m not running from it. I’m sitting with it. Writing it. Feeling it.
Because the only way out of the silence is to finally find my voice.
