I can help you.
But you have to let go of your skepticism, your doubts, and your worthless worn out habits.
Because this is your hour. And we’ve got work to do.
It’s time to write something.
So, sit in the chair.
Or stand at your writing desk if you like that option better.
Gather your pen and paper, laptop, or tablet.
Maybe bring some tea or whatever you like.
Set the timer for an hour.
And just start writing. Write anything. Write a story.
Write about your first kiss. Or your last one.
Write about the day you got your puppy or the time you watched your old dog take his last breath.
Write about spring, or Christmas, or the first time you got really drunk and tried to projectile vomit through that screen door.
Come on, I can’t be the only one!
It doesn’t matter what you write about. Just sit there for an hour and write. Don’t edit, just write. And at the end of the hour, you can read it back.
It might be crap. Total crap. But it might also be brilliant.
In any case, there are words on the page.
Words you can edit now or later. Possibly tomorrow.
When it’s time to sit in the chair again.
* Special thanks to Joshua Fields Millburn for teaching me to sit in the chair.
