What is your
favourite Oscar moment?
I’m not cynical when it comes to the Academy Awards. Maybe I should be, but for me they are a celebration of an industry that has brought me nothing but happiness throughout my life. Yes, in the big scheme of things, they do not matter, but then neither does much of any of the things I love and which I believe make my life worth living.
In my experience, joy is found in the trivial not the absolutely necessary.
So, I’m the type of person who has a favourite Oscar moment and it belongs to one of my biggest heroes–a man who not only played a enormous part in the history of cinema, but in the history of America as well.
It is the moment when Sidney Poitier was awarded a lifetime achievement award in 2002 at the 74th edition of ceremony.
