Reflecting on Progress
What we’re not so much in the habit of doing, which is a shame, is looking down and seeing how far up the mountain we have already come.
Confidence is looking backwards. What do I mean by this? I wanted to make a podcast episode that helped people feel more confident in 10 minutes.
So much of our insecurity comes from focusing on what we don’t have in the present, what we think we’re not good at, what we think we’re lacking, and what we’re worried about in the future.
It’s like being on the side of the mountain, looking up and seeing how far it feels like there is to go. In life, there’ll always be further to climb.
What we’re not so much in the habit of doing, which is a shame, is looking down and seeing how far up the mountain we have already come.
I have this awful habit—waking up feeling like I’m not enough, like I haven’t done enough. It’s a deficit mindset, starting the day from a place of inadequacy.
Valuing Achievements
We often fail to value and appreciate what’s already happened, what’s already been done, and what I’ve already proven.
Think of something in your life today that scares you. Now think of the hardest things in your life that you’ve already overcome.
Reflect on the battles you’ve already won and the resilience you’ve shown. What reasons do you have already in your life to feel confident?
Consider how past challenges and successes have shaped who you are today. You now have new tools and resources compared to before.
Realize that the person you were in the past was less capable than who you are today. Imagine the potential of your current self.
Make a list of the difficult things you’ve overcome and the achievements you’ve created in your life. Recognize your capabilities based on what you’ve already done.
