Do you ever tell your friends and family, “I just need to get away for me!”?
Men and women are more present, more energized, more loving . . . when they can get some time to themselves just to get away from all that they are dealing with and sort it out somewhat.
When I’m consulting with my clients on getting their personal life in more order, I find that across the board they do not make any time for themselves. Really bad idea here!
Depression is only one of the culprits running havoc with our lives in this society.
Turn on the news on any day to hear that someone has died by their own hand. 22+ Veterans die by suicide every day in this country. This is attributable to the fact that a person has removed themselves from family and friends and entered a dark world that has no mercy for the traveler.
My company helps people online all over the world 24/7. That’s the good news! The other news is that most people don’t know about us yet. they have also stopped trusting in the advice of others mainly because of nothing working AND they don’t want any more medications.
We’re talking “ME” time today and how important it is to all of us out here trying to make it through their life – right?
Now let’s talk about what kinds of “ME” time do you use and do you suggest it to others? For me, I go up on a mountaintop because I live in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I go alone just to be by myself and just let all the “STUFF” in my head to move around without adding more to think about from other people. Our friends and family want to help but what usually happens is we get overwhelmed even more – right?
Some men go to a church and sit in the chapel to be somewhere safe in their minds. It doesn’t matter where you go – it only matters that you go somewhere safe to you and possibly fun so you can neutralize your depressive feelings. Maybe it’s just going for a walk where there a lot of people or no people at all. Here’s a good one – go to an animal shelter and hold different animals. I stress here that you may want to hold many animals so you don’t take any home with you thinking they will replace your need for “ME” time. Not a good idea.
Maybe you could use a timed walk where you do not think about anything and just walk at a quick pace for 5 minutes. Set your phone alarm to go off and alert you to turn around. While you’re walking, let your mind think of any one thing for the whole time even if you came to a conclusion early on the walk. Keep thinking about the subject all the way through the walk to ensure you really did come to an answer.
