The more I live life, the fact that: WE are not meant to do life alone still punches me in the gut. It is a reminder that having a community is vital to wellness. People can go to great links to ensure that they isolate themselves and not interact with a single soul if they wanted. Life in the digital age makes this easy. We need community because that’s how society has functioned until recently. The “every man for himself” ideology is growing now and hence why more and more individuals are suffering. Everyone innately has the need to belong.
Everyone desires acceptance, a place where they can call home. As a therapist and a life coach, I have been affirmed over and over; that I NEED people. I need people more now than ever. This realization has drastically changed my life. Having accountability, someone I can depend on has done wonders for my self-esteem and my productivity. Embracing the notion, set me free to have bolder conversations and deeper relationships. Not everyone is going to be able to give you what you need. I have a support group for this reason. One person is not going to be able to give you everything that you need. Adapting a village mindset creates the expansion of your tribe and gives you more opportunities to grow. In conclusion, finding a community where you have a niche and everyone plays their part will create belonging.
