You say you do, and oh you say it with such sureness that when I hear the words it stops my world.
My worries, my fears, those little hurts — they hold their breath and their voices go quiet, just for a moment. For an hour or a day or maybe two. And every time I think that they’re gone for good, that they’ve forever been silenced, but no…
They always come back.
In the way you don’t ask about my day. In the way you don’t answer when I reach out to you. In the way you place a timer on the hours that we spend together.
And it’s kind of funny how you think that these things I say are all untrue. Kind of funny that you can’t tell the difference between what I ask and what you give. You, so enlightened, so understanding, so deep. Funny that you of all people could so easily confuse intentional action with ticking off boxes.
Perhaps you think I’m being needy, that I’m picking on details, but my heart simply knows. You are not with me. And you may have all the love in the world for me, but right now, you are not loving me. And oh how I wish you loved me.
