Jade Shines Light

Miss Jade has dedicated over 20 years to the field of education. Throughout her illustrious career, she has served as a tutor, youth specialist, and English teacher, impacting students from ages 7 to 70 across elementary, middle, high school, and technical college settings. Miss Jade's commitment to education has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades, including being named Teacher of the Year and District Honor Teacher. In 2006, she earned the distinction of being a National Board Certified Teacher, one of the most prestigious honors in the teaching profession.

After facing significant health challenges, Miss Jade retired from the classroom. As her health allows, she continues to contribute to her community and the teaching profession as a volunteer advocate and consultant and as a member of the Advisory Council for Taking Back our Village. In addition, Miss Jade serves as an assistant catechist and a lector at her church and as chaplain for her college alumni association. Jade has been a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated since 1996 and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Peter Claver since 2021.

Miss Jade earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from South Carolina State University and a Master of Education in Secondary English degree from Charleston Southern University.

In her personal life, Miss Jade finds joy in spending time with family and friends, writing, reading, watching TV, and bird and butterfly watching. She is a proud dog mom to Sable and Champ and loves being an auntie. Most of her time is spent resting and engaging in rigorous self-care, but her passion for education and community service remains undiminished.

She often reminds everyone, “I may be retired from classroom teaching, but I will always be a teacher. It’s a part of who I am.” Her mission now is just to continue to serve in small ways with great love. In spite of serious health challenges, Miss Jade continues to educate, inspire, and empower people with her creativity, writing, and dazzling personality. Every day of her life, she aims to sprinkle a little salt and light into the world.
