If climate change is your issue Jay Inslee might be your guy. According to Mother Jones magazine Inslee is trying to make climate change the story of the 2020 election. Considering the impending catastrophe maybe he is on to something.
To address the problems caused by climate change Inslee will implement a 100% Clean Energy Plan. By 2030 all cars and light trucks will be zero emissions, all new buildings will be 100% zero carbon, and energy production will be carbon neutral. These are big steps, but it is a big problem, maybe the biggest.
In 1994 he voted for federal legislation to outlaw assault style weapons. It was a move that probably cost him his seat in the senate. And during his time as Governor of Washington has been consistent in that stand.
Really, in many ways, Inslee is just another candidate. He supports LGBTQ, he believes in a woman’s right to choose, he has opposed the tariffs, the Muslim ban, the wall and the internment camps popping up on the southern border.
On the other hand, though, Inslee could make it uncomfortable for democrats who don’t want to talk about climate change. He might make it impossible for the others to ignore it. And if he can do that he deserves our gratitude, and if he can’t… Well, let’s not think about that.
In other news. Using some television formula for ratings, or commercial success, or something even stranger the first Democratic Debates have been announced. Twenty are in and four are out. I guess the last four would have just been too much.
Here is the lineup for the two night marathon.* Grab some popcorn and a beer, and enjoy the grappling.
*Until a candidate has decided he/she is not running I am just going to assume he/she is still part of the pack. I’m not so fussy as NBC. I make room for them all.
