TASK #17: Working One Off
“Sex is an emotion in motion”. Mae West
To say that men like sex would be an understatement. I’m not saying that we are necessarily good at it, or even understand its nature or its beauty, but it is a primeval urge that we simply cannot ignore.
And when a man is bereft of a partner to enjoy sex with him, he will often have sex with himself, an activity that has many colorful names, but is formally known as masturbation. In the clique of men that I grew up with, in backwater Ohio, we called it WORKING ONE OFF. Why? I don’t know, but what it lacks in subtlety, it makes up for in clarity.
Masturbation is normal, normal, normal. It is not evil. Masturbation will not lead you to crime or drugs or howling at the moon. Masturbation puts you in touch (literally) with your sexual being. Why do men masturbate? BECAUSE IT FEELS GOOD. Plus, you can have unfettered, exciting, unrestrained, unsafe sex with any female, male or farm animal your mind can conjure up. In fact, when you masturbate your sexual experience is only limited by your lack of imagination. There is even a form of therapy in which masturbation is used as a substitute for harmful substances.
Polite society–and religion–doesn’t look at it that way of course. But who cares–their shaming is our guilty pleasure.
Work One Off. Find your stimulation: pictures, video, or the image of the waitress at the diner leaning over you to pour coffee…and goto it.
